Wanna ride bikes?

Below is probably my best composed example of how it can be with Attention Deficit Disorder. I posted it to Myspace.

I have a slight case of attention deficit disorder and am taking adderall for it. Within the first hour or so after taking it, I get real chatty. People on the phone with me notice the difference right away. Today I happen to be at the keyboard. I thought I'd just let my stream of consciousness flow. I have no idea what I am going to say. I'll keep going until the eTour stops.

My parents bought a cabin up on Minnesota's Gunflint Trail. Also on that trail is a lodge called Windigo Lodge. I saw the name and remembered an episode of Supernatural about one such being. So I've done some net searching. The windigo is kind of both a state of being and a spirit. When someone is lost in the woods, to the point of cannibalistic urges, they can be overtaken by the windigo. The windigo is also described as a frozen giant with a heart of ice. The creature seems to be primarily in the northern part of of the continent. (N America)

I kind of want to get some good windigo stories to tell as ghost stories up at the cabin. But I'm afraid my nephew may be too young for them. There is one at the project gutenberg. I haven't read it yet. It has a slightly different spelling.

The term derives from the Algonquian root word "witiku", though throughout the tribes and times the term's spelling varies: Wendigo, Windego, Wetiko, Windago, Windikouk, and so on.
I think I like the them all. But may finalize that to one only, when I get the tales ready.

What strikes me about my mini research on this topic is that no being strikes more fear in the people than this beast. There is thought that the mythology evolved out of caution to be careful out in the woods and the taboo against cannibalism. There is a mental disorder called Windigo Psychosis where a person believes themselves to be inhabited by the spirit and acts as such. The big foot legends have adopted much of the windigo lore as well. Sceptics would point out that prior to about 1950 the term bigfoot didn't much exist, but by merging windigo lore into it the phenomenon goes back centuries. I also found a book, I may want to look for at the Library. It's Field Guide to North American Monsters.

Topic change
the students had their summer finals last week, and as a result last night was pretty sleepy down-town. It may be the heat, but nearly everyone I know was tired yesterday. I dozed for about two hours when I could have been out taxiing people around. I went out for a bit, and did a few short hops, but nothing too major. So I went off duty and took a rare Friday Night off. I had myself a cool refreshing summer drink, a Gin & Tonic, that just happened to have been a mistake, and was very refreshed. I went home and due to my nap earlier, I was awake until about 7 this morning. Its a good thing I have always been a night owl.

My first real job was at Perkins. I worked weekends and usually had the 10pm - 6 am bus-boy and dish washing shift. I got out of that later, but it seemed to set the stage for later trends. After college I was in theater management. We'd have to work until 12:30 or so, and if we wanted to socialize we did so then. Often we'd corral ourselves at a centrally located bar and make last call. It was not uncommon to have after parties at out houses until the wee hours.

Recently when I was working at Mia's we'd stay up until the wee hours after work. And now that the bars stay open until 2:30 it just drags it out even further. As a sober ride home, I have learned though, if it takes them until 4:00 am to close Mia's, they are usually to much in a party mood for me to want to deal with. But they've figured out a way to get me to buy into the plan. It is to get me involved in delivering their car home.

You see, I don't mind staying out until 4 5 6 whatever it takes. But I want it to be a sure thing. I will happily drive until 7:30 if I have airport reservations to fill. But I do not like sitting out, and waiting just on the outside chance they may need me to drive them. By their having me move their car, it commits them to me for the later hour, and I do not get impatient.

I am on medicare now. Its kind of weird that it makes me feel old. When the old crone on the life alert commercial says "every ... senior ... citizen ... needs ... life ... alert" I pay a little extra attention. But after reading online complaints about the company, I don't feel all that compelled. I am most excited about my drug plan. I spent about $600 on drugs a month for my condition. It is the primary reason I work. Once I get on the plan, I will want to run my numbers and see how much I can cut back from working. My dog is a wiggly worm. The miniature dachshund, Boudain, likes to lay on the bed next to me, and roll on his back and wiggle. Its the cutest. He'll also burrow under the covers using his nose like an elephant would. His snout is so long its like a mole's. It makes sense, though, I guess since they were badger hunters. They'd dig down into the dens after badgers. Of course we all know badgers are nice fluffy mammals with gum-drops for teeth, and candy corns for claws, so the task would have been an easy one. These days My Badger Dog stalks much more dangerous prey: toys. It does not matter what it is. If I pick something up, and say "It's Mine" he's over to me trying to take it way. Its about the only way he'll come now. He does not want to miss out on any of the cool stuff.
The More You Know

booty call

met with my bootcall fuck buddy last night.
He sent me a quick text
want to suck each other's dicks?
to which I replied
that goes without saying
we got together in about an hour, he answered his door in his underwear, we went up to his room and got naked.

I cannot even express how built this guy is. He kind of reminds me of the football player from Queer as Folk.

I do not do casual much at all, and it had been a while. Apparentlym my colleagues noted how much nicer I am. We may have to start meeting more often.

Coffee may cut alcohol liver damage | Health | Reuters.co.uk

I drank a lot of coffee. My dor always told me I had good liver function for someone that drank as much as I did. AND I really only admitted to half what I really drank. But since my heart surgery I only have 1-2 drinks per week, compared to 4-5 drinks per day before.

Meanwhile

as the Church distances itself from works of fiction, the daVinci Code, meanwhile:
nvestigators said the nun, Margaret Ann Pahl, 71, was strangled and then stabbed, with nine wounds on her chest forming the shape of an inverted cross, a well-recognised Satanic symbol.

An altar cloth was draped over her half-naked body, which was posed as if she had been sexually assaulted.

"It was about how he could humiliate her the most," prosecutor Dean Mandros said in closing arguments. "He left a message for everyone to see ... maybe to God himself."

the initial suspect, Rev Robinson was found guilty after his interogation was interupted by church officials.

NDE

I had a near death experience (nde) last week. I was sure I was dying. As I lay in my bed in a near fetal position, I wondered if it was the end. I was feeling physically horrible, I'd been puking and had horrible indigestion. I am not sure if I had any heart issues or not, but I took the Nitro pills just in case. I had none of the classic feelings of an attack.

But the weird part of the experience is as I closed my eyes, I could see things "through" my eyelids. This is not an unusual exprience for me, usually its star fields. But every so often it is a silouette. Recently I have taken this silouette to be that of my guardian angel. Spirit guide, what have you. But this time it was a team of them. I looked carefully for a field of light, not seeing anyting but the shadowy shapes. It was like they were filing past me and considering my situation.

I got the intense impression that a decision was made that it was not my "time" and the filed away. No matter how hard I tried to recreate the phenomenon, I only got the star field sensation after that truth time. The next morning I felt terrific.

I've read a lot about NDEs and have understood a collection of friends and family come to meet you to cross over. I do not know if that what was going on, but It was pretty weird.

The whole experience reminded me that I have not taken any steps to take care of my estate in case anything like that does happen. I need to make plans for a will and a living will.

Homobonus

I think I found my patron saint. The circumstances are just too uncanny.

Besides the obvious, homo, his feast day is my birthday. He died on November 13th, 1197. He was a man that did everyday things extroidinarily well. he was a businessman, and a lover of honesty, virtue and self-respect. Good things happened to those he helped. In 1997, His Holiness, Pope John Paul II wrote a letter regarding him.

Homobonus means good man in Latin. In some instances St. Homobonus is referred to as Uomobuono, Homobono, Homobonius, Omobono, and Omobonus. There was a church in Rome with the name Sant'Omobono.

Currently there is an SCA affiliated festival feast in his honor in Finland.

My shot, loxt

Well W and Harriet Meier ruined my chances at a Supreme Court job. Years ago, when I was in college, I was the perenniel number two guy in politics to my roommmate. I had him promise to me that if he ever got elected president, he'd appoint me as a justice. He agreed. Now with all the furor over "qualifications", I doubt I could avoid being borked. Ok, I doubt he'll ever run, so I am not really out anything, but he has served in Washington under two different presidential administrations. Pretty high up from what I understand. I think he was at the same level as the former FEMA chief, in that he reports to a cabinet secretary. But anyway, I doubt he is suitedf for public office. I think he may even be tired of being a politico.

But it still sucks knowing I cannot be a Justice unless I go to law school, become a judge, etc. I kind of wanted to be the Billy Carter of the third branch.

Change and Prep

Change.

No one seems to enjoy change. Those that do seem to thrive on it, I think are shifting focus away from what they really want to change. But Change is inevitable.
Take New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. It is going to be changed in a big way. I hear people worried that New Orleans will never be the same. But it never is the same. For all its ancient permanence, there is always something new popping up. It is not a living history museum, but a place where real people work, live and play.

Take for example the Old Absinth House. Absinthe was outlawed. The Bar of that establishment was moved down the street to grace a new place called "The Old Absinthe House Bar" of all things. I went down there not too long ago, and itself have been turned in to a daquiri shop.

The people of that region have endured epidemics, wars, slavery, riots, superbowls, sugar bowls, pirates, carnival and the advent of open container laws. They will get through this, but it will take time. Kind of related to change, our modern society seems to demand instant change.

Most of the complaints about the storm response had to do with how long it took. Granted it seems to me that it took a long time, but I have no frame of reference as to how long it *should* take. I remember when newspapers increased from a quarter to fifty cents. My grad school roommate complained that it was now "too expensive". Compared to what? Sure one hundred percentage price increase is high by any count, but we all should know the cover price is nominal compared to the real cost of printing and distributing the paper, which is bore by the advertisers.

Everyone wants universal health coverage, but they want it to be free. When pressed, not many people will admit that they want to pay for the ER visits of crack addicts arrested for public nuisance.

While I think of it, I do not want to get too far away from my original theme. Planning. Authorities knew this disaster was inevitable. It is quite possible that this disaster may have been on the back burner for many officials, including the president, that had many more items already on their plate. But please. I lived in the New Orleans Metro when I was in high school, and even then they were talking about the devastation a storm such as Katrina could cause. As recently as this year, I saw a show on how it would play out, as well as scenes from the he last great flood of the area.

I cannot blame the government alone. Who are these people but extensions of us, Americans. How many of us let our car's oil level drop below the add a quart line once in a while? How many of us let our check book balance approach a zero once in a while. Who has not run out of gas? People eagerly buy house trailers and move them in areas of anti-trailer weather. Young college boys worry that AIDS is not something that affects their age group, or take false relief that there is some drug therapy available now.

The Teflon coating that makes us, and us alone, to the inevitable shake of the dice is just as guilty of covering the government officials. Prevention is a hard sell. If it works, you never know it did. When I do n not have a mouth full of cavities, am I grateful of all the brushing and flossing I have endured? No, I hate flossing and brushing after every meal. I loathe it. No imagine if I had to pay an extra dollar for each time I did. But I never had to go to the dentist for filings. Would I make the connection, or would I think I had Teflon coated teeth?

Everyone in power hoped and prayed the inevitable would not happen on their watch. Much like the social security crisis. If you listen to the cures for that you will see a "solved until" date that is not all that far in the future. What are we going to do then? Well, I guess since we'll be gone we'll let the kids solve it.

That reminds me of something funny I saw shortly after Y2K. Someone complained that during the upgrade of the computer systems to handle 4 digits, they just laid the groundwork for a Y-Ten-K crisis in the year 9999.

I guess I am just saying we do not need a congressional investigation as to why the response was so muddled, we just need to get that area cleaned up, and make sure we are prepared for the next one. San Francisco earth quake is something a lot of people are in denial about. Supposedly, the last big quake involved a coverup of the true damage. It was white washed away, and many officials understated the true damage. On Cable I saw examples of still damaged buildings from that era. I also saw that the current code violates what scientists learned from the evidence as to what will work.

"We don't want to talk about that" is an insidious attitude. It implies an ignore it and it will go away fallacy that is specious at best. We need to grudgingly accept the reality of change. We are a remarkably adaptive race. In my lifetime I have adapted to new technologies with relative speed and ease. I can program my VCR, wait its not even connected anymore. I can program my cable box to save my favorite shows.

The New Orleans area will change. I hope it is for the better. I also hope they do not get into the "pretend nothing happened" version of restoration. An example of that is when they rebuilt the British houses of parliament, they kept them the same cramped size. As if nothing happened. No Luftwaffe, no Hitler, "sir could you move your elbow?"

hot summer sunday

Yesterday I stopped by a sidewalk cafe and had a seat with some friends. Eventually, I noticed a hot muscular guy looking at me from down the walk. Everytime I looked his way, he was looking. But of course, he waas facing me, and it was natural for me to look to my left as that is the direction traffic flows from.

I was just admiring the view. Eventually he got up and asked if that was my cab and if I had a card. Had he asked for a ride only, I would not thought much of it, but asking me for a card, in case he ever needed a cab, was a bit of a tell.

Abouy thirty minutes later he called me and asked if I wanted to mess around! Did I ever?! He said he needed to shower, and I took that as a cue for me to do as well. I called him when I was done, and he even lives on my side of town. I got over there, and we chit-chatted a bit, and went up to his room. He was so hot, I cannot do him justice. But he was all about me. Apparently he is attracted to red heads, with a slightly unkempt appearance. He was a slave to my cock. We had soem beers fooled around, watched porn. we've got a standing agreement to repeat it. Hopefully, it wil happen again, soon.
